Recruitment SaaS2026•Timeline: 3 Months

Resume Bar

Smarter hiring starts here.

Why This Project Mattered

The business and user context

Job seekers spend hours manually formatting resumes, researching what recruiters want, and trying to bypass automated ATS filters. MakeMyResume was built to bring that workflow into one intelligent, AI-driven platform.

The Challenge

Creating a professional, ATS-optimized resume is difficult for users without design or formatting skills. Existing tools are rigid, lack intelligent content guidance, and often break when exported to PDF.

Business Goal

Provide a seamless, real-time resume building experience that increases ATS match rates and helps candidates land interviews faster.

Research & Insights

What we learned before building

Insight 01

Formatting is the bottleneck

Most job seekers spend their time tweaking layouts and spacing rather than focusing on impactful content.

Insight 02

ATS rejection is a black box

Candidates don't know why their resumes fail automated screenings or how to fix them.

Insight 03

Generic content fails

Resumes need to be tailored to specific job descriptions, but doing so manually for every application is tedious.

Design Thinking

Principles that shaped the experience

Principle 01

Interactive AI Guidance

A real-time conversational chat interface guides users step-by-step to lower cognitive load.

Principle 02

Contextual Feedback

Instant ATS scoring and AI suggestions appear directly alongside the resume content.

Principle 03

WYSIWYG Export

What you see is exactly what you get—pixel-perfect document rendering that recruiters trust.

Engineering Execution

The technical breakdown.

Phase 01

Architecture Design

Established a scalable Flask Application Factory backend and a robust dual-AI provider strategy (AWS Bedrock & OpenAI).

Phase 02

Real-time Streaming

Implemented Server-Sent Events (SSE) with Nginx tuning for low-latency, real-time AI chat generation.

Phase 03

PDF Engine Build

Developed a server-side headless browser (Playwright) solution to replace inconsistent client-side PDF rendering.

Phase 04

Full-stack Development

Built the responsive React 19 frontend and integrated secure JWT authentication and Razorpay monetization.

Phase 05

Testing & Security

Executed a rigorous 18-point pre-deploy audit ensuring strict CORS, rate-limiting, and webhook validation.

MakeMyResume transformed a stressful, manual chore into an engaging conversational experience, giving job seekers a shared workspace with AI to craft, evaluate, and export winning resumes faster.

Behind the Build

Problems faced, solutions found, lessons learned

Problem

Client-side PDF generation (html2pdf.js) resulted in broken layouts and CSS inconsistencies across different user browsers.

Solution

Transitioned PDF generation entirely to the backend using Playwright.

Learning

“Don't rely on the client's browser for critical document rendering.”

Problem

Generating entire resume sections via LLMs took several seconds, frustrating users with long loading spinners.

Solution

Switched the chat interface to use Server-Sent Events (SSE), streaming the AI response token-by-token.

Learning

“Perceived performance is just as important as actual performance.”
